Pedagogical University of the Polish Association for Adult Education in Warsaw was established in 1993. On 30.04.1993 Minister of Education issued a license to create a non-state university under the name of Pedagogical University of the Polish Association for Adult Education in Warsaw (ministerial decision of 08.06.1993 on entering Pedagogical University into the Register of non-state universities – entry number 20 - Dz. U. MEN from 30.07.1993).

In total there are more than 12 500 students of intramural, extramural and post-graduate courses at the University in the academic year of 2004/2005.

The University is a member of European Thematic Network of University Continuing Education (THEUNCE).

The University has a Central Library, as well as libraries in the regional institutes, boasting specialist up-to-date resources.

The University publishes RES HUMANAE – a twice-yearly, and has its own publishing unit.

The university has various multimedia facilities: unitel, television sets, video.

Pedagogical University employs on full-time basis 198 didactic and research staff, out of whom 113 are professors and post Ph.D. degree holders.

University was licenses to award Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees at Pedagogy and Political Science courses and Bachelor’s degrees at Philology and Polish Philology courses.
